Cyber Insurance

Cyber insurance, made simpler.

Cyber insurance is now essential — but confusing, and insurers keep raising the bar. Here’s the plain-English version, and how we help you get properly covered.

To be clear

  • We don’t sell or provide insurance
  • We’re not an insurance broker
  • We make you easy to insure
  • We refer you to regulated partners

Important: Foresight is a Managed Security Service Provider — not an insurer or an insurance broker. We don’t provide cyber insurance and we don’t give regulated insurance advice. What we do is get your security to the standard insurers expect, and refer you to trusted, regulated insurance providers and brokers who arrange the right cover for you.

The basics

What is cyber insurance?

Cyber insurance helps cover the financial fallout when something goes wrong online — a breach, ransomware, fraud or downtime. Security reduces how often that happens; insurance covers the cost of what still gets through. Sensible businesses do both.

What it typically coversCommon requirements & exclusions
Incident response & recovery costsMFA on email & remote access (usually mandatory)
Data-breach notification & legal feesEDR / endpoint protection in place
Business-interruption lossesKnown vulnerabilities patched promptly
Cyber extortion / ransomware (varies)Tested, working backups
Third-party liabilitySecurity awareness training
Regulatory investigation defenceAccurate disclosure — misrepresentation voids cover

What we actually do

We don’t sell insurance — we make you insurable

Insurers now decline or load premiums for businesses that can’t show the basics. We put those controls in place and keep them there — then give you the evidence to answer the insurer’s questions honestly and in full:

Multi-factor authentication
Endpoint detection & response
Patching & vulnerability management
Tested backups & recovery
Cyber Essentials certification
Security awareness training
24/7 monitoring via our SOC
Evidence & documentation for your application

The result: easier to insure, better-placed on premium, and far less likely to have a claim refused.

Why it matters to us

How insurance makes us a better, more trusted MSSP

Partnering around insurance isn’t a side-line — it makes us sharper at our actual job:

  • It keeps us honest. Insurers set a high, objective bar for security — we build to it, so you get protection that stands up to scrutiny, not just ticked boxes.
  • Being insurable proves our security works. An insurer’s willingness to cover your business is independent, third-party validation of the controls we’ve put in place.
  • Everyone’s aligned. Insurer, broker, you and us all want the same thing — fewer incidents. That’s a healthy partnership to be part of.
  • We stay in our lane. We hand the regulated bit to a regulated expert rather than pretending. Knowing where our expertise ends is part of being a partner you can trust.

FAQs

Cyber insurance questions, answered

Do you sell or provide cyber insurance?
No — and we’re glad you asked. Foresight is a Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP), not an insurer or an insurance broker. We don’t provide cyber insurance and we don’t give regulated insurance advice. What we do is make your business genuinely secure so you’re easy to insure, and refer you to trusted, regulated insurance partners who can arrange the right cover.
What is cyber insurance, and what does it usually cover?
It’s a policy that helps cover the financial fallout of a cyber incident. Cover varies, but typically includes incident response and recovery costs, data-breach notification and legal fees, business-interruption losses, cyber extortion (ransomware), third-party liability and the cost of defending a regulatory investigation. Always read the specific policy — that’s what a good broker is for.
Why do insurers keep asking about MFA, EDR and Cyber Essentials?
Because they price on risk. Multi-factor authentication, endpoint detection and response, patching, tested backups and Cyber Essentials dramatically reduce the chance and cost of a claim — so insurers increasingly require them before they’ll even quote, and reward them with better premiums. These are exactly the controls we put in place and keep in place.
Can Foresight help us actually get cover?
Yes — in the way that genuinely helps. We get your security to the standard insurers expect, give you the evidence they ask for on the application, and then refer you to a regulated cyber insurance partner who arranges the policy. You get the security and the cover, each from the right specialist.
Will having Foresight lower our premium?
It can — a well-secured business is a lower risk, which is what premiums are based on. But the premium itself is always the insurer’s decision, not ours. What we control is making you a business insurers want to cover, and helping you answer their questions honestly and in full.
What makes a cyber insurance claim get refused?
Most often, misrepresentation — saying you have controls (like MFA) that you don’t. Claims are also commonly declined for leaving known vulnerabilities unpatched or for poor security hygiene. Our job is to make sure the controls you tell your insurer about are genuinely there and maintained, so your cover actually pays out when you need it.
If we have an MSSP, do we still need cyber insurance?
Yes — they do different jobs. Strong security (us) reduces how likely an incident is and how bad it gets. Insurance covers the financial impact of the incidents that still get through. No security is perfect, so the sensible approach is both: lower the risk, and insure what’s left.
Is Cyber Essentials enough to get insured?
It’s a great baseline and many insurers look for it — some even include a level of cover with certification. For higher limits or higher-risk sectors, insurers often want more: Cyber Essentials Plus, EDR, 24/7 monitoring and tested backups. We’ll tell you honestly what your likely insurer will expect.
Who are your insurance partners?
We work with specialist cyber insurance providers and brokers rather than tying you to one name. We’ll refer you to the partner that best fits your size, sector and risk — see our partnerships page for how we work with insurers and brokers.
How do we get started?
Start with a security review. We’ll find the gaps insurers care about, fix them, give you the evidence you need, and introduce you to a regulated insurance partner. Begin with a free risk scan or just get in touch.

Get secure. Get insurable. Get covered.

We’ll get your security where insurers want it, then introduce you to a trusted, regulated partner for the policy.
